Kids
like games, from game online, PS (Play station 1, 2, and 3), X-Box, PSP (Play Station
Portable), game house, even cell-phone’s games. In class, they seem think about
the lessons but actually they do not. They are thinking about what the newest
video games are. Thinking or considering games as a refresher and free time killer,
kids want to go home as soon as possible. Therefore, they will be able to play
those games rather than do their homework. Even though video games entertain
kids, video games also could give
bad impacts such as
lead to laziness, and physical problems.
One argument might true that video
games could improve
kids’
intelligence and hands’ skills,
could
make a
healthy body because
using
physical exercise like WII fit game, and could relieve stress and boredom. In contrast, video
games could also make kids addicted to it. When kids see and play those video
games, the first thought
might be “Playing games again and again”, they think games are fun, interesting, and they want it more. Moreover, video games increase
kids’ behaviour
problems and mental illness like
depression, anxiety, and so on. Stated by Professor Douglas A. Gentile (the Media Research
Lab at Iowa State University, Ames);
“When the
children get addicted to it, depression, anxiety, and social phobia gets worse
and the school will go down. But, if they quit addicted from it, depression,
anxiety, and social phobia would be better”. (Fox News).
This
research was conducted in Singapore over the last two years against more than 3,000 pupils.
Researchers found nearly one in 10 pupils
addicted to
video games will
be stuck on problems.
Moreover,
video games can lead to kids’ laziness
because they are inhibiting the children’s academic progress.
A study published in Psychological
Science in March 2010 showed that consumption of multimedia games intensely
aggravate the child's ability to read and write. Besides, Michigan State University study
in 2009 showed that 12-year-old who played
video games has proven having the lowest grade in the
class. It also takes kids
time which should be used to
study.
Most
significantly, video games caused physical problems. It caused eyes problem and fatigue. It happens because the television
and the player’s distance
usually
are very
close. Another
example like televisions
or monitors’ light blue screening can cause
eyes problems (myopia nearsightedness). If
we play games for a long time it will make us forget
to take a break, eat, take a shower,
study, and so forth. This case may increase
the risk of various diseases like
flu or fever because we forgot to eat like what
happened previously. Then, it also could lead our physical problem like Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) or
repeated physical injuries. For example is finger injury, which our
finger can be swollen and felt
hurt. RSI could
lead physical disability to
a person, causing fingers’
cramps,
and the worst is one of fingers can’t be
moved.
Finally, considering
all those negative sides
of playing games; it is better if we
could
remind children or gamers around
us not playing games too much caused it can cause
laziness, and other
physical problems. At the end, everything
must be balance, whether it’s good or not, and “Study hard and Play hard”.
