Journalism: The Difference of Hard News and Features News
In the first meeting, journalism presented by Mas Rio, the participants understand that journalism was news, any news that people meet in their everyday life, part of their life to get current information in any part of the world.
It is also discussed in our meeting, that there are two kind of news, " Hard News and Features News".
Both have their own characteristics, explained below:
1. Hard News
This kind of news, usually the heavy one. What does it mean by the heavy one? It means, this news has more serious themes than features news. Usually this news will discuss about politics, health, corruption, and many more as long as current and up-to-date.
This news also has more academic terms, and various words that make us has to look up on dictionary to find its meaning.
This news usually straight, so that people will already find out what's happened at the very first reading. This news gives us facts and does not tell examples.
2. Features News
Then, features news is lighter than hard news. This kind of news has more variety in telling their news, for example like a story. We usually find this kind of news in magazine, or short articles. This news discussing about travelling, business, entertainment, and so on. This news can be used and read every time, and usually still be needed, re-read by people.
Features news usually has style. What is it mean by "style"? It means, its writer has their own style in writing their features news to get in touch with the readers.
Features news not only gives us the definition of its theme, but also examples follow about the theme discussed, so that the readers will understand and get the points of the news more easily.
