Each Religion is Legitimate. There is a statement from postmodernism: “There is not one religion that is “right”. Instead all of them are legitimate” (Sklar: 2011).This statement shows; there is no the best or the worst religion in our life, but all religions are the best or right in its way. On the opposite view, in the Persepolis 2, readers can find that the religion is something crucial and obviously taboo to be talked, since in the real life religion may sometimes use to attack other religions.
In the Persepolis 2, we can examine that the religion issues may have some similarities within our life. For instance, like what Marjie’s mother said to Marjie:
“I remember the days when we travelled around Europe. It was enough to carry an Iranian passport. They rolled out the carpet. We were rich before. Now, as soon as they learn our nationality, they go through everything, as though we were all terrorists. They treat us as though we have the plague” (Satrapi, 49)

Her mother told her about Society's perspectivebefore and after Iran became Islamic country |
From that example, we can see how people treat Iranian differently after Iran nationality is changing into Islamic system. Before Iran nationality is changing into Islamic system, they treat Iranian like a king and a queen. However, after they know that Iran nationality is changing into Islam, the people like staying away from them. We may assume that “the people” here can be groups of people who have other religions like Buddhist, Catholic, Christian, and Hindu. It also could be a group of people who might have “Islamophobia (someone who has a phobia toward Islam and/or Muslim)”. We also have heard about the bombing issues in some countries that unfortunately some people who are being attacked are from other religions, and the most ironic that the one who is being accused as a terrorist is Islam and/or Muslim’s people.
Moreover, we can see how Marjie’s mother is questioning the Islam “right” or “legitimate” as a religion. Farthermost, a thing that Marjie’s mother implicitly saying is staying away from the Muslim, where the people who do not like Islam and/or Muslim treated them like plague, and over generalizing all Muslims’ people are terrorist. It is undeniable that Islam sometimes related to terrorism, but why do the people do that? It seems that Islam is not the real religion or only the religion who like war, bombing, and attacking another religion.
Therefore, like the postmodernist has said before that all religion is right, there are no best or worst religions. Then why, there are still some people who treated Islam differently and why many Muslim’s people think that their religion is superior to others. This thing also leads to many questions that cannot be answered easily. However, if this always happens, where one religion claims superior and sees others are inferior, the problem will never been solved. Thinking to be an objective’s person in the religion subject matter is hard, because religion is also someone’s identity, and it could be a sensitive subject for someone who cannot differentiate between the learning discussion and the religion discussion.
We know that war still happens in Iran and some people might still think that Islam is a terrorist or some of them still have “Islamophobia”. Thus, it is still questionable for the writer and the readers about where the Islam right as the religion especially when this happens in Iran, and where many people are suffering from a bad treatment that they get from other people who may come from other religions. Moreover, the Iranian also gets inequality just because they are come from a country that uses Islamic system and this inequality leads to bigger issues in the Persepolis 2 story.
